The first release and birth date of the Lineage 2 game are considered to be October 1, 2003. On this day, the first stable server was launched in Korea with the Prelude chronicles, and in North America, the launch was on April 28, 2004.
Initially, the game was very 'raw', many mechanics did not work, and the FPS dropped significantly. NCSOFT knew that Blizzard would soon release WoW, so they were in a hurry. But this did not prevent the game from becoming super popular at that time, as many players were discovering the MMORPG genre for the first time.
To play, you needed to buy a subscription. The first version, Prelude, had about 200,000 active paid subscriptions.
Chronicle 2 reached more than 2,000,000 subscriptions, which was a record for online players and interest in the game. Everything changed on November 23, 2004, when the game World of Warcraft was released and began to attract players. Later, Chronicle 5 had about 1,100,000 subscriptions.

In the last days of Interlude, the number of subscriptions dropped to almost 900,000.
In Kamael, a new race was added and the game client was completely redesigned, and fortresses appeared. Kamael also brought back some players.
The end of the second saga was the High Five chronicles, which occupy the first place in the number of private L2 servers and online players.
For High Five, the developers collected feedback from players and tried to take into account as many requests as possible. Perhaps that is why this version became so popular.
